Backup? That takes hours!
And tons of CDs. I don't know how. It takes too much time. Besides, nothing will ever happen to me!!
Do any or all these sound familiar?
Even as good as today's computer components are, computer crashes are a fact of computing life.
It is not a question of IF it will happen, but WHEN it will happen. AND IT WILL!!
When it does, all your valuable files and data are lost!!
It may be due to the latest malicious virus or Trojan or Worm.
It may be that the hard drive just died. (I've seen a 4 month old hard drive die.)
Or it may be a disaster such as fire, flood, or hurricane.
Whatever the cause, your data is gone.
Because computer failure is inevitable, you should take measures now to prevent
the loss of data and files and be able to restore your computer to its original condition.
What is this measure? Backup. Backing up your computer involves either copying
everything on your computer to CDs or another disk or taking a "snapshot" of your computer's
data so that it can be rebuilt in the event of a disaster.
With a backup your computer can be back up and running in 2-3 hours.
Without a backup you may look like the poor soul in the image above.
Within the computer IT field there are two old, but true, sayings relating to backups:
"You are only as good as your last backup", and
"A truly cautious man wears both belt and suspenders"
